Hi All, Just purchased myself a decent project, a SunTracker Party Hut 30. I think it's around a 1997 model. The rear centre pontoon managed to detach itself from the hull when the owner was trying to load on trailer and it took a swim including the engine. The whole lot was hanging off cables and hydraulic steering hoses. The bolts had corroded lost tension and the rest is history. The engine was a Tracker (mercury) 115 2 stroke. I am looking to repower. Can anyone give advice on what engine would be best to repower this pontoon boat ? Would love to retain same mounting / hydraulic steering mounts but appreciate this may not be possible. I am also looking at replacing the clears and need a cover for the whole boat so any companies that could help please let me know. Any advice is greatly appreciated and if you find yourself in the Gippsland lakes in Victoria, Australia, we would be happy to take you for a tour over a frothy or 2 once I get it all sorted...

I'm not sure I would go past a 115, mate! LOL. That's what my 94 has... Check the link in my sig for the rebuild thread.. You will need a 3rd pontoon for anything heavier.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks mate. Mine has the 3rd pontoon. The engine sank so I'm not sure how good it will be. I was looking to repower with a 130gp Honda 4-stroke. The tracker 115 was doing 5 gallons per hour I was told! You have the quite the project going on ! Hats off to you for taking it on and it will be spectacular when your done.

Would you know where I could buy new clears, canvasses and a full boat cover for the party hut ?

regards
Paul

I wouldn't really call that section the motor is mounted to a third pontoon.   It is really a pod.   A pontoon would go the full length of the boat.    That small pod/transom section the motor is mounted to will not add much flotation.   I also agree don't go larger then a 115 without considering adding a full length center pontoon.   Most of the older motors actually weigh less then the newer motors.   A newer 115 could add 50-100 lbs more then your existing motor.  The 4 stroke motors even more.  Also the transoms are only rated to handle so much motor.   My old 90 was thirsty, i bought a 2007 etec 115 motor for 4 grand used, haven't fired it up yet to compare fuel usage.

Congrats on your purchase though!   For covers just search around for any local marine upholster/canvas business's.  All that stuff is generally made custom so I local shop is best for it.   You can find generic covers online at places like west marine and overtons but they aren't custom fit to the boat by any means.

A 2 stroke motor sinking isn't really the end of the world if you act quick to dry it out and get it running again.  Take the cover off and let it dry if it happened recent.   Pull the spark plugs out before you turn the motor over with starter, you need to get all the water out without compression so pulling the plugs will let all the water shoot out of motor.   I'd flush the old oil and gash out of the lines if its injected and I would mix some oil in the gas too in the beginning.    A product like wd-40 is good for displacing water out of other things like connectors, throttle cable ends, etc.
